P57-Landscape Detail Design for a Therapy Forest Itinerary in the Can Fornaca woodland in Caldes de Malavella, Girona, Spain

Client: Acció Natura / Fundació Caixa d'Enginyers
Project date: December 2016
Area: 52.019 m²

The Forest Therapy Itinerary of Can Fornaca should be one of the first in Catalonia to provide quality standards for new initiatives.
The requirement is a forest with a high landscape quality and mature trees, in addition the topography should provide a friendly environment accessible to the majority of people.

The Forest Bathing is inspired by the popular practice of "Shinra-Yoku" introduced in 1982 in Japan, where the government itself promotes a network of therapy forest trails throughout the country, to encourage a healthy lifestyle and decrease stress levels.
The Can Fornaca forest presents suitable conditions, an existing sinuous and gentle path, well preserved and rich forest, remarkable degree of calm and some optimal areas to install the elements that should facilitate the practice of the forest bathing with specialized guides.
